History 

The story of Sujal Dairy is closely connected to the Pokhara Milk Supply Scheme (PMSS). PMSS was established in 1977 AD by the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC), a government undertaking, with its dairy plant coming into operation in 1980 AD in Pokhara, a beautiful tourist city in western Nepal. The project was supported by the Danish Government under a Turnkey Project.

In 1991 AD, when the government initiated the process of privatization, we at Sujal Dairy saw an opportunity to build something meaningful. We entered the bidding process for the acquisition of PMSS, which lasted nearly a year. After a long and competitive process against three strong bidders, we were finally awarded the scheme in January 2005.

From the very beginning, we were determined to transform the business. We modernized the working modules for milk collection, processing, and marketing, and made significant investments in world-class technologies and production facilities. To give our products a distinct identity, we introduced the brand name “Safal”, which quickly became a household name in Pokhara and its surrounding areas.

Over the years, we have grown into a fully independent company, producing a wide range of dairy products including fresh milk, value-added milk products, SMP & Dairy Whitener, sweets, ice-creams, yogurt, ghee, and cheese, paneer, butter, nauni, mohi. 

What began as a government scheme has now become a thriving company driven by innovation, quality, and trust. We are proud of this journey and remain committed to serving our consumers and supporting the farming community.

Timeline

• 1977 AD: The Pokhara Milk Supply Scheme (PMSS) was established by the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) to promote organized dairy production in the region.
• 2004 AD: Sujal Dairy Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Laxmi Group, officially took over PMSS from the DDC. The company launched its flagship brand Safal, offering a wide range of dairy products including milk, curd, ghee, and butter.
• 2010 AD: Introduction of Lovebirds Premium Ice Cream, catering to the growing demand for high-quality, indulgent ice cream.
• 2012 AD: A modern processing plant was established at Thankot, enabling Sujal Dairy to expand its operations and supply its full product range to the Kathmandu market.
• 2021 AD: Launch of Delite Dairy Whitener, a locally produced alternative to imported whiteners, supporting Nepali farmers and reducing import dependency.
• 2025 AD: Introduction of Nepal’s first thermoforming packaging for Safal Fresh Paneer, ensuring better hygiene, freshness, and shelf life.
• 2025 AD: Launch of Delite Dairy Pride, celebrated for its authentic taste, rich texture, and cultural heritage.
